We are all going home is a multichannel video and audio installation, created by Aline d’Auria and commissioned by Chiasso_culture in movimento, the city office promoting intercultural integration. Chiasso, Switzerland, as a border city, deals with immigration daily and, in collaboration with the Chiasso Biennale dell’immagine, asked d’Auria to create a piece centered around the Easter European inhabitants living in the city, showing them in a new light. The piece is composed of three parts. The first one is a two channel video installation cycle, featuring original music by Black Fluo, showing people and landscapes filmed in constant movement, between two starting points, in this no man’s land that belongs only to the journey.
The second part is composed of several original Eastern European lullabies recorded in Chiasso and reproduced in a single room with beds and a suggestive dark blue light.
The third and last part consists of a single video channel and a sequence of three boxes with photo monitors. The video shows a city, in this case Chiasso, Switzerland, and its inhabitants absorbed in their thoughts. They are on their own internal journey, as opposed to a physical one that for one reason or another, did not take place.
The photo monitors display photographs exchanged by the people involved in the project and their families. 

We are all going home is an immersive piece that asks the visitor to take time and perceive the present, his present. The result is a combination of what the visitor sees and what he wants to see. Are we still talking about immigration? Or are we talking about the perception we have of immigration? The multi channel video and audio experience allows for a personal experience that is different on every visit and for every visitor, creating a new piece of art each time.
