Le dive: l’infanzia, i loro paesaggi

Sound piece, 14 min

Le dive: l’infanzia, i loro paesaggi (The Divas: Childhood, Their Landscapes) is a soundscape walk that draws its main inspiration from the places of origin of the three divas: Goro (Milva), a village located near the Po delta in Emilia Romagna; Cremona (Mina), a city in Lombardy; and Ligonchio (Iva Zanicchi) in Emilia Romagna, near the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park.

This work reflects on how the sonic environments in which the three divas grew up may have subtly influenced their musical trajectories. Through research into soundscapes shaped by the morphology of their places of origin and melodies rooted in local oral traditions, the piece imagines sounds they may have encountered and internalized during childhood, including distorted archival recordings by ethnomusicologist Roberto Leydi.

Alongside this imagined past, my present emerges through field recordings: footsteps, water, boats, voices, animal calls, urban and maritime sounds, all forming a disenchanted sonic journey in search of a sound capable of reconnecting the divas to childhood, memory, and origin.
